Posted by admin on Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

I have just finished programming a new OSX Dashboard Widget.  It checks the current pricing and availability for CCIE Routing and Switching, CCIE Security, CCIE Voice and CCIE Security racks.  The process for creating a widget is pretty straight forward.  The only part that wasn’t support out of the box was making AJAX calls to […]

Posted by admin on Sunday, July 20th, 2008

It seems the rush of free iPhone applications is slowing.  Today, for example there were four applications released in the free section: Clowdy Photo Blogger, Vecka, Writing Pad, and Quitter.  However, there were eight new applications for the iPhone which cost money: eWallet, Jade, Kenkou, Moo Box, Shout It, Sketches, SuperPong, and Tiny Violin.   […]

#15. AppFresh

So, now that you have downloaded apps 25-16, you’re going to need a way to keep these applications up to date.  To do this, you can launch the applications and check for updates on each one individually, or use AppFresh.  This application updates widgets, applications, preference panes and Apple updates.  It also integrates in nicely with your free iUseThis account.   If you haven’t been to iUseThis before you should really have a look at it.  It’s a nice repository of Mac software with a active community.

From the developer’s website.

AppFresh helps you to keep all applications, widgets, preference panes and application plugins installed on your Mac up to date. All from one place, easy to use and fully integrated into Mac OS X. AppFresh works by checking the excellent osx.iusethis.com for new versions and lets you download and install available updates easily.

How do you keep track of the latest versions for all your installed applications? Apple’s built-in Software Update helps keep software like iTunes and Mac OS X updated, but what about the rest? A lot of applications on your Mac don’t include their own update checker and even if they do, they don’t work from a central place. We believe updating an application should not be done at the moment you want to use it. That’s why AppFresh provides a central place to control the software updates available to your Mac, integrating most popular and most common update checking technologies such as Apple Software UpdateSparkleMicrosoft AutoUpdateAdobe Updaterosx.iusethis.com and more.

We want you to spend your time using your applications, not keeping them up to date!
